“I’m currently sitting in a busy pub with my previously nervous, dog-reactive little Staffy, Lala, unfazed by her surroundings, calmly settled and snoring beside me. I have been told so many times before that this would never be possible for us. Since leaving, I’ve taken Lala to cafés, busy parks off lead, on trains and tubes, and into situations I would have avoided completely before.”

If this feels familiar
Inside, the perfect companion.
Outside, a different animal.
You did not get a dog to spend every walk scanning the path, gripping the lead, and preparing for the next blow-up.
The Dawn Patrol. Walking at 5:50am, 6:15am, or late at 10pm because it is the only time you can guarantee you will not meet another dog.
The Shrunk World. Avoiding cafés, busy parks, family holidays, and friends because your world has been getting smaller for months.
The endless cycle. You have already tried trainers, classes, advice, treats, distance work, and management — but the real world is still a problem.

Your dog does not need another quiet, sterile training session.

Real results from real dog owners.
Five experiences from owners whose lives had been restricted by reactivity, fear, or a dog they could no longer manage.
“Just spent 5 days at SCCA with my reactive Border Collie Ozzie — who the vet had suggested behavioural euthanasia for — and six other reactive dogs. By Friday, Ozzie was walking calmly off lead in a group and hanging out at the pub. It has completely transformed our lives and given Ozzie a second chance.”
“We were told ‘he’ll never be a pub dog’ — but on day 5 of the bootcamp, we went to the pub and didn’t have a single bad experience. We were told he was a German Shepherd, so he just had to walk on lead and be managed. After this week, we are walking off lead with total control.”
“My dog was super dog-reactive — just the sight of another dog and she would completely lose her mind. My walks consisted of hiding behind cars and avoiding all situations. By Wednesday afternoon we were walking in a calm group and visiting cafés, and by Thursday we were out off lead and fully under control.”
“I wasn’t the buyer of this course — honestly, I was sceptical. We used about five previous trainers and they had all been rubbish: fluff and jargon amounting to nothing. The transformation in five days has been unbelievable. SCCA gives you real, practical tools that work.”
The SCCA method
Why five days changes what weekly sessions cannot.
THE OLD WAY
- One trainer, one dog, one session a week — with no meaningful exposure to the things your dog actually reacts to.
- Distance work in quiet environments, building slowly for months.
- Management that leaves you crossing roads, carrying treats, and hoping the next encounter goes differently.
- Advice that sounds good on paper but disappears when a dog appears around the corner.
THE SCCA WAY
- Eight reactive dogs in a controlled space from day one. Your dog learns around an actual trigger, not a stand-in.
- Five days, six hours a day. By Friday, your dog has done more trigger encounters than they would in a year of weekly sessions.
- Owners learn the same skills in the same real-world situations, so progress does not depend on a trainer being there.
- Off-site work, lead and off-lead control, cafés and the final pub test — all within the week.
The right fit
Is this right for you?
The SCCA 5-Day Bootcamp is for dogs and owners who have reached their limit and are ready to be coached properly.
- Your dog is reactive on or off lead — lunging, barking, or kicking off at dogs, people, cars, bikes, horses, or prams.
- You own a German Shepherd, Malinois, Collie, Rottweiler, Bully breed, or high-drive rescue who is too strong or too fast to manage when they react.
- You have tried positive-only methods, classes, or board-and-trains that plateaued, failed, or made the reactivity worse.
- You are at your limit: relationship strain, separate walks, a pregnancy, newborn, or grandkids on the way.
- Your dog has redirected a bite, had a near-miss, or been banned from kennels.
- You are ready to learn the skills yourself, so you are not dependent on another trainer forever.
A fortnight from now
The choice gets clearer when you see the daily reality.
WITHOUT SCCA
- You are still on the 5:50am Dawn Patrol rota, hood up, scanning the path for other dog walkers.
- The pub or café trip gets declined because you cannot bring them and do not want to leave them barking at home.
- The conversation about whether this dog is right for the family happens again.
- Family walks are split up because walking together is pure chaos.
WITH SCCA
- You walk past another dog at 4:00pm on a Saturday without your heart rate spiking.
- You meet friends at the pub. Your dog is settled under the table, snoring, unfazed by the surroundings.
- You stop planning your day around avoiding triggers and start planning with your dog.
- Your partner or teenager can take them out with confidence and control.

BOOK A FREE CALLThe story
I've been exactly where you are.
I started South Coast Canine Academy because I was tired of watching reactive dogs get failed by the same handful of methods. The loop was always the same: difficult dog, months of training, a behaviourist, then eventually a conversation about medication or rehoming. The dog was not the problem. The training was.
The bootcamp format came out of running one-to-ones for years and seeing the same ceiling: an hour a week with one dog in an empty field does not beat the rest of the week rehearsing the wrong thing. So I built the opposite. Five days. Eight dogs. The trigger is not avoided — it is the entire room.
South Coast Canine Academy is part of the Yorkshire Canine Academy network — a method developed and refined across hundreds of bootcamps in the UK and Europe.

Common questions
Questions we get every week.
Yes, in most cases. We have worked with dogs with bite histories — including dogs that have bitten their owners. We will ask for the full history on the call and be honest about whether we are the right fit.
Age, breed, and background do not disqualify a dog. What matters is the dog’s current behaviour and your commitment as an owner.
We back our results with a written guarantee. If the results do not hold within six months and you have followed the plan, we refund. Ask for the full terms on the call.
Yes. Owners travel from all across the UK. We can recommend dog-friendly accommodation near the Wadhurst facility for the week.
Yes. The bootcamp trains you as much as it trains your dog. You need to learn what we are doing and why so you can replicate it at home.
Every dog in the bootcamp is reactive. Groups are carefully managed, and no dog is thrown in unsupported. If we have accepted your dog, we are confident we can work with them.
